Editorial Services Agreement 

This document summarises the key terms for working together on your editing project.

The project

We will agree on the type of edit, word count, fee and schedule by email before the project begins.

Editing may include:

• Proofreading

• Formatting

• Blurb writing

All editing is completed by G R Matthews personally using Microsoft Word with Track Changes so you can easily see and accept or reject changes.

Booking your editing slot

To secure a place in my schedule, a booking fee is applicable, usually half of the agreed cost

The booking fee is non-refundable, but it counts toward the final invoice.

Your slot is confirmed once the booking fee has been received.

Fees and payment

Fees are based on:

• word count,

• time required, and

• the level of editing required.

Quotes are provided after reviewing a sample of the manuscript.

Unless otherwise agreed:

• the quote covers one full pass of the manuscript

• the final invoice is due within 14 days of completion.

Payments are normally made by bank transfer in GBP (£).

Manuscript delivery

Please send your manuscript 24 hours before the agreed start date.

If the manuscript turns out to require significantly more work than expected, we may need to revise the fee or schedule before continuing.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel:

• More than 1 month before the start date: the booking fee is retained, but no other charge applies.

• Less than 1 month before the start date: the full project fee may be charged (minus the booking fee).

• After editing has begun: the full agreed fee may still apply.

If I ever need to cancel for unexpected reasons, any unused fees—including the booking fee—will be refunded.

Confidentiality

Your manuscript and project details will be kept completely confidential.

Files may be stored securely using Dropbox/OneDrive for backup purposes.

Copyright

Your manuscript remains entirely your intellectual property.

After payment, any editorial material created during the editing process also becomes your property.

Editing tools

I use professional editing software to support the editing process.
Your work is never uploaded to public AI systems, and generative AI is not used to rewrite your text.

All editing decisions are made personally by a human editor.

A final note

Editing improves clarity, consistency and accuracy, but it cannot guarantee zero errors or publication success.
