Finding the next big thing?

How difficult is it to choose a TV series to watch? One to become so involved in that it can carry you away from the real world.

I finally started Stranger Things a few months ago after much nagging from a friend that I should watch it. So, I began and was hooked. Yes, I am a DnD player and GM of many systems which means there is a hook for me already. The DnD scenes in the first series reminded me of my own first forays into RPGs. A group of friends gathered around a table, mini figures being moved over a hastily drawn map, the clatter of dice on the wooden surface, and discussing the minutiae of tactical decisions before each action. Each 6-second round taking a good 4 or 5 minutes. Good times!

I have one episode to go. The Finale. And, I can safely say I have enjoyed each and every season. The question is then, what next?

Well, Game of Thrones? I've never seen a whole episode. I've watched half of the first one, but should I go back and start them for real? Everyone says that the first seasons are amazing, and I'll leave the rest of that thought unsaid... However, I am tempted. It is fantasy on the TV done well, and that doesn't happen often. I also feel like it is one of the shows I really should watch – everyone has seen it, apart from me.

This morning I started Wonder Man on Disney. Another Marvel series and one about a character I know little about. I do vaguely recall the character from some Spider-Man comics I read as a boy (and later as an older boy of 50+. Just onto episode 3, and there is a charm to this superhero story where no superpowers have yet to be demonstrated.

The tale of a struggling actor trying to get a big break is quite bittersweet in many ways. The support of Sir Ben Kingsley is superb. Is Trevor Slattery one of the most intriguing characters in the pantheon. A simple actor, comedic support, but there is a depth to the character, a fear inherent in him battling the desire to do the right thing (sometimes) against self-preservation.

I am into series two of Resident Alien, having read the graphic novels, and really enjoying the performance of Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, and Alice Wetterlund. In fact, the whole cast are excellent, and I could probably write a lot more about each. However, these three, for me, form the heart of the story so far, and the supporting cast each have their own idiosyncrasies. which endear them to me.

So, I suppose I have enough to be getting on with. Why was I worried?
