Waking this morning and getting ready for work I could tell it was a little chilly. The house was warm and the shower was hot, which was a bonus as the boiler had to be fixed this week.
I only realized how cold it was when I stepped outside. Oh, and I'd missed all the northern lights last night which really annoyed me! Anyway... not the point.
My car was iced up for the first time of the year on October 11th. A thin film of brittle mist coating the car from windows to doors and I reached out a finger to touch and check. Sure enough the chill of ice against my skin, the slick skid of frozen water, and the certainty that winter had come to Kent.
It was bound to happen, I suppose. High pressure the night before with clear skies, rampant radiation of heat from the ground cooling the air above and that little moisture in the air condensed and then froze to the glass and metal.
The door opened without trouble and I took my accustomed seat, plugging in my phone, and pondering the situation. Was it too much to make it into work and instead spend a comfortable day at home playing Throne and Liberty and drinking coffee?
Clearly it wasn't. It was hardly anything really but the like the last post I can but dream.
On with the heated steering wheel, the air conditioning, but not the seats, it wasn't that cold. First World Problem solved with First World Technology.
Simple.
Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, I got to work and have now returned home, ready for the weekend and ParkRun tomorrow (Orpington is the plan).
As for the title, I say without pride that I have not seen Game of Thrones, and only read the first two books so, really, honestly, it was a tenuous link at best. Also, having finished RIngs of Power, that could well be my next watch!
